Shopping for a Wedding Photographer

We would love to be your wedding photographer.  However, we realize we can't be everyone's photographer.  Our style of photography might not be what you are looking for.  We might not be expensive enough (don't laugh, you'd be surprised how many expensive "name" studios in this area charge more and give less just because of who they are), or maybe you want us but we're already booked (we do one wedding a Saturday to give our undivided attention to our clients, we are not a wedding factory).  Hopefully, the questions will help you in choosing a photographer who will  make your day as special as it deserves to be.

Finally, in this area, you might find other photographers offering to do weddings for less money. If the quality meets with your approval, excellent; but, as my father used to tell me, "You’ll remember the poor quality long after you’ve forgotten about a higher price". The photographs are yours to cherish long after the meal has been eaten and the band gone home.  Why not get the best quality you can afford?  We have packages for all budgets.

  1. Is the person hired to do the photography the actual photographer that will be at your wedding? Many studios have a pool of photographers to send on weddings. Make sure the samples you see represent the person being entrusted with your special day.

2. Is the photographer using professional equipment and film? Some photographers offering budget packages will shoot with 35mm equipment. Although the quality is fine for vacation photos or snapshots, is it the quality you want for your once in a lifetime day?

3. Does the wedding package come complete with an album, or is that an additional purchase? Some photography studios are charging for the photography only, thus leaving the expense of an album as a surprise you don’t need after the honeymoon. Photographers offering the negatives to you, so that you can make your own album, are setting you up for high lab fees and additional expenses of obtaining an album.

4. Are there additional charges for special request pictures that might occur throughout the day? Weddings and funerals are often the only occasion families get together. It is important to know you won’t be charged for extra pictures throughout the day.

5. Do I get to keep the proofs? Aside from throwing them away, what else will the photographer do with them after you have reviewed them. Should you be charged extra for this?

6. How will the photographer be attired? Do you want your photographer casually dressed during your elegant day. Accept no less than a suit. Save the tuxedos for the wedding party.
